Summer (Pitta Season: July–October)

Summer invites us to choose foods that cool, hydrate, and gently support digestion so the body can stay balanced in the season of heat.

Nature’s cue: Fire and water dominate. The body needs cooling, hydration, and foods and spices that calm inflammation and heat.

Ayurvedic focus: Reduce Pitta. Favor foods that are cooling, sweet, and hydrating.

Eat more:

  • Juicy fruits (watermelon, mango, peaches, grapes)

  • Cucumbers, zucchini, leafy greens

  • Coconut water, mint tea

  • Whole grains like rice and quinoa

  • Dairy (in moderation): ghee, yogurt, milk

  • Spices like cilantro, basil, mint, and fennel

  • Cooling oils like coconut oil

Avoid:

  • Spicy, sour, salty foods

  • Fermented foods and alcohol

Ritual tip: Eat your largest meal at midday. Practice moon salutations or restorative yoga in the evenings.
