Breakfast Dosa

A sattvic, grounding food

In Ayurveda, dosa is considered sattvic when made simply and eaten fresh. Sattvic foods support:

  • clarity

  • calmness

  • emotional steadiness

  • spiritual nourishment

From an Ayurvedic perspective, this dosa is both balancing and supportive because:

  • Red lentils are naturally light, easy to digest, and rich in plant‑based protein, making the dosa satisfying without heaviness.

  • Warming spices gently stoke digestive fire (Agni) and help the body assimilate nutrients with ease.

  • Rose brings cooling, heart‑soothing qualities, creating a beautiful balance with the warming spices.

  • Coconut oil adds grounding, nourishing unctuousness, supporting the nervous system and stabilizing Vata.

  • The thin crepe form makes the meal simple to digest and absorb, aligning with Ayurveda’s emphasis on light, warm, freshly cooked foods.

The result is a breakfast that feels comforting, steadying, and energetically harmonious, rooted in tradition yet crafted for Doshic Balance.

Ingredients:

1 cup of soaked red lentils

1/2 cup water

A pinch of cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg

2 tablespoons maple syrup

Rose Petal Powder Or Rose Petal Jam

Mix all ingredients together in a blender and blend until you have a pancake-like consistency.  Heat coconut oil on a pan and pour the batter onto pan.  Using a spoon smooth out the batter to form a circular shape that is thin like a crepe.  Cook on each side for 2-3 minutes or until crispy and light brown.  Fold in half and sprinkle shredded coconut flakes or coconut sugar on top.  You can also put a scoop of rose petal jam.
